I sent this message last week to microsoft.public.windowsxp.help_and_support and was summarily ignored, so I thought I'd try it here. When I move or copy a file, using Windows Explorer, I drag the filefrom the right pane onto the folder in the left pane where I want itto end up. When I let up the left mouse button with the destinationfolder illuminated, the file transfer occurs. If I 'move too slowly' or 'take too long,' the destination folder expands automatically, revealing the first level of subfolders. (Unfortunately, this also puts a different folder, a sub-folder, under my mouse cursor, without my moving the mouse at all.) How can I disable this behavior? I don't want anything to expand when I'm dragging and dropping in Windows Explorer. All it does is make the file end up in the wrong folder. Then I have to search the subtree in order to find out where the file ended up, and then move it again. This is very annoying. I don't remember it acting this way in Windows 2000. (BTW -- I have Friendly Folders disabled in the Registry, Double-Click To Open An Item selected, and Display Simple Folders unchecked in Tools -> Options.) Thanks a lot! Drag and drop text has always bothered me, but it has bit me enough times today that I've come here looking for an answer. Problem: If I highlight text and don't get the selection I want, when I try to rehighlight, the OS thinks I want to drag and drop that highlighted text somewhere and makes a mess of whatever I was working on.
